If your roof is leaking in Dallas, do three things now: contain the water with a bucket and move anything valuable, poke a small drain hole in any bulging ceiling drywall so it doesn't collapse, and photograph everything with timestamps for insurance. The first hour: contain, drain, document

Valleys and low-slope sections. Mid-century Dallas homes often have low-slope sections and long valleys that hold water. Debris from mature trees dams the flow and pushes water under the shingles.
Getting a roofer out and what to expect
Say it's an active leak when you request quotes. Most DFW roofers prioritize water intrusion and will tarp within a day, then schedule the repair. Tarping commonly costs a few hundred dollars and is usually credited by insurance if the leak is storm-related.
Ask for photos of the source. A good roofer will show you exactly what failed, quote the repair in writing, and tell you honestly whether the rest of the roof is close to needing replacement. Be cautious of anyone who looks at one leak and immediately pushes a full insurance claim.
