An AC blowing warm air in Houston is most often a tripped condensate float switch, a thermostat set wrong, a tripped breaker, a failed capacitor, a frozen indoor coil, or low refrigerant, and the first three cost nothing to fix yourself. Houston's humidity means the indoor coil pulls gallons of water a day, so drain lines clog with algae and float switches shut systems down constantly from May through October. Check the thermostat, breaker, filter, and the attic drain pan before calling anyone. Check these six things before you call

Filter and drain pan. A filter loaded with a summer's worth of dust starves the coil and can freeze it. Then look at the attic air handler. Outdoor unit and copper lines. The outdoor fan should spin and the big line should feel cold and sweaty. A fan that hums without spinning is usually a capacitor. Ice on the lines or the indoor coil means turn the system off, run the fan only for a few hours to thaw it, and have a tech find the cause.
Why Houston systems blow warm air more than anywhere else in Texas
Condensate volume. Nine months of humid cooling means the drain works harder here than in Dallas or Austin, and algae grows fast in a warm, wet PVC line. A tripped float switch looks exactly like a dead AC. It is the single most common warm-air call in Houston.
